Finding the right balance
Finding the right balance
For both children and adults, sleep is one of the pillars of our well-being, it is as important in our lives as having a balanced diet. We must make sure that our children’s sleep is one of quality in order to promote optimal development. Which is why my children’s sleep has always been a priority for me.
When we were struggling with our daughter’s sleep, I researched all the sleeping methods out there. The ‘Gentle Sleep Coach‘ program was the one that adhered to our parenting values and philosophy, so it was the method of our choice to teach our two little ones to sleep.
Gentle Sleep Coaching is the only method that I would apply with my own children, and therefore my choice when I decided to become certified as an Infant Sleep Coach. The method was created by Kim West LCSW-C, as a more gradual and gentle alternative for those parents who do not agree with the “cry it out” method, or who have tried other methods without success.
It is based on receptive parenting, which means that we accompany our children in the process as we teach this new skill, and find a balance between comforting and allowing them to learn to comfort themselves.
Although there is not yet a 100% tear-free method, we do seek to reduce them as much as possible. My goal is to create a personalized plan that adapts to your philosophy, parenting style, values and family dynamics, to make this process as gentle and gradual as you wish.
As parents we are responsible for giving our children the tools to promote optimal development, making sure they feel safe, loved and reinforcing secure attachment at all times.
